1. General Information
Regional Background:
Dodoma Region is located in Tanzania mainland on the semi arid plateau. It is a major commercial centre, due to its central location in regard to other regions. The region is renown for its wine culture as it is a major wine producer in the southern Africa. Due to the excellent irrigation schemes in the region, there is hope for a brighter future in the agricultural sector.
Dodoma is 452 Km from Dar Es salaam. It can be reached by air (1 hour), Tarmac road (6 hours) or railway (12 hours).
Population and area Facts:
The region covers 41,310Km2 and comprises of five Districts with an estimated total population of 1,640,000as to year 2000. Growth rate of the population is between 2.9 in 1967 - 1978 and 2.4 in 1978 - 88. Population density is 30 people per square Kilometre.
