Regional Background
Kigoma is situated in western Tanzania and it borders the Democratic Republic of Congo, (DRC) and Lake Tanganyika to its west, Tabora and Shinyanga regions to its east, Kagera region and Burundi to its north and Rukwa region to its south.
Kigoma is the terminus of the central railway and a transit port to the DRC, Rwanda, Burundi and Zambia for both passenger and cargo services and has thus been declared by the government as a FREE TRADEA AREA to cater for this regional trade.
The region not only has vast potential for investment in its fishing industry, but also in tourism. It has one of the most captivating landscapes in Eastern and Central Africa. Lake Tanganyika, a lake within the great African rift valley is the second deepest water body in the world and has endemic fish species suitable for both ornamental (aquarium) and food purposes.
