AGAIN, SIDO IS AMONG THE OVERALL WINNERS IN THE DITF
Small Industries Development Organization (SIDO) emerged the 3rd overall winner in all categories during the 34th Dar-Es-Salaam International Trade Fair (DITF). The Fair was held at Mwl. J.K Nyerere Trade fair Grounds from 28th June to 8th July 2010. SIDO also emerged as the first winner in the engineering category. This position has being won by SIDO for more than five consecutive years. Winning in Engineering is a result of efforts being undertaken by the Organisation in supporting and making engineering products, through its Technology Development Centres (TDCs) and SMEs especially machines to support Kilimo Kwanza. The overall trophy was presented on 7th July 2010 by his Excellence Luiz Inacio Lula Da Silva the president of Federative Republic of Brazil who was accompanied by his host, his excellence Dr. Jakaya Mrisho Kikwete the President of the United Republic of Tanzania and other high profile delegates from both two countries. The engineering trophy was presented by the East Africa Secretary General Hon. Juma Mwapachu on 2nd July 2010. During the exhibition, SIDO displayed various machines developed to facilitate value addition on agricultural products in order to increase productivity of SMEs’ businesses. Some of the machines were for processing coffee, maize ground nuts, palms rice hullers; water pumps, incubators, wind mills water pumps; Tractor trailers, wheelbarrows, automatic chicken cages and others. Exhibitors at the SIDO pavilion included SMEs from all over the country. Other then machines the exhibitors displayed a variety of products ranging from processed food products, leather products, books, herbal soaps and medicines, textile, handcraft products and blacksmith products. During the exhibition, SMEs realized total sales and orders of Tshs 935,406,800. Tshs 78,488,800 was for cash sales and 779,083,000 were for orders obtained from within the country while 77,835,000 Tshs was for orders received from outside the Country.
