ZERO ENERGY COOLING CHAMBER AT CHANZEMA-MOROGORO

SUCESSFULL IMPLEMENTATION AND CONSTRUCTION OF ZERO ERNEGY COOLING CHAMBER (ZECC) IN CHENZEMA, NYANDILA AND LOLO

Zero energy cooling chambers is the technology developed from India which aimed at lowering the temperature in the harvested crops before sending them to the market. The harvested crops can be cooled at the farm level or at home. This technology has been proved to provide the cooling atmosphere by the principal of evaporation.

In collaboration with MVIWATA through its MALIMBICHI Project we were able to train 50 farmers and construct 3 ZECC in village of Chenzema, Lolo and Nyandila.

Construction of ZECC has give farmers a great hope that their produce will last long before reaching the consumer but at the same time they will be able to obtain good market for their produce since they will not rush to sell when the price is low. Use of ZECC will  also allow Small and marginal farmers to store for a few days after harvest to avoid middlemen. Farmers should also be encouraged to construct their own ZECC at the farm or within the house surroundings.
