Mbeya Region is located on the south-west of Tanzania mainland, commonly known as Southern highlands. It boarders with four Regions namely Rukwa, Tabora, Iringa and Ruvuma. It is accessible by road and TAZARA railways from Dar es Salaam through Pwani, Morogoro and Iringa Regions; it is a junction to Rukwa Region through Tunduma and a junction to Tabora and Singida through Chunya and Itigi-Manyoni districts. Although not all the roads are passable easly during rainy seasons, they expected to be so in the near future when the connections to Sumbawanga and Tabora will be tarmac.
According to the 2012 national census, the region had a population of 2,707,410 which was lower than the pre –census projection of 2,822,396.

SIDO Mbeya office is located at Soweto in Mbeya City along road to Iringa or Tunduma. It has two industrial areas which are built with Industrial clusters that add value to agro products. The areas are; Mwanjelwa TPC and Soweto industrial Estate.
